Pursuant to Article 8, paragraph (1), points a), i), and j) of the Law on the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of BiH (Official Gazette of BiH, 56/08), the Agency is responsible for:

• Proposing and implementing the development strategy and policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of identification documents, in compliance with the ICAO 9303 standard and other relevant standards;
• Defining the standards for the equipment that the competent, receiving, and source authorities will supply and use in the process of data processing and exchange in compliance with this law;
• Defining the standards that must be met at locations where the central register system is accessed and data is exchanged to ensure data and system security.

Accordingly, and pursuant to Article 61, paragraph (2) of the Law on Administration (Official Gazette of BiH, 32/02), the Director of the Agency issued a Decision on standards for equipment and software and standards of protection at the issuing locations and recommendations for the work of the competent authorities employees.
