Biometric systems have been used by the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2009 for issuing biometric travel documents under its authority.

Besides its primary function of confirming the identity of the applicant for a biometric document, the highly accessible and effective biometric system of the Agency allows sophisticated methods of facial and fingerprint recognition and matching by comparing them with biometric data within the Agency’s jurisdiction.

Through the necessary software solutions, police authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have access to all of the features of the biometric system of the Agency.

Additionally, the European Union Delegation is funding the pilot project of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina which is underway and its objective is identification of voters using fingerprints and the biometric system of the Agency.
