A representative of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the recently held fourth Cyber Security conference “Resilience as a Strategic Capability”, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As part of her participation in the panel “Critical infrastructure and services in BiH—how we protect ourselves,” Lida Kapić-Buljubasic, head of the Department for communications, administration, and support of the Regional Centre Sarajevo, introduced the Agency as one of the important institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina whose infrastructure is regarded as critical infrastructure, necessary for the state’s operation and the provision of the fundamental rights and freedoms of its citizens.
Regarding the established infrastructure and services offered for digital representation, as well as the usage of certified digital certificates for remote signature, the Agency’s leading role in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s digital transformation was highlighted. The growth of electronic services and digital transformation requires the expansion of cyber security capabilities, which are related to the long-term strategic objectives and management support of the Agency.
It was emphasised in this segment that a state strategy for cyber security must be established since the state institutions need to have legislative framework and clear action procedures to combat cybercrime, violence, and all other threatening activities.
One of the conclusions of the conference is that the protection of critical digital infrastructure and its vulnerabilities, and therefore the protection and security of the use of critical services, is a key concept that ensures the smooth functioning of society and the state, economic stability, and the safety of citizens.
To accomplish the stated objectives and improve resilience, Bosnia and Herzegovina requires a state-level law on the protection of vital infrastructure as well as practical actions and calculated investments.
