The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have signed an Agreement on the electronic data exchange, which will efficiently implement the international Agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licences between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Italy. This agreement regulates the mutual relationship regarding electronic access to the registers of driving licences, which are maintained and technically supported by the Agency.
The agreement brings significant benefits for the citizens of both countries, especially for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina residing in Italy. The greatest advantage of this agreement is the simplification and acceleration of the driving licence recognition process. Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who wish to obtain an Italian driving licence no longer need to take additional exams or face administrative barriers, thus facilitating the process of obtaining an Italian driving licence.
The procedure for obtaining an Italian driving licence is very simple. Specifically, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who wish to exchange their BiH driving licence for an Italian driving licence must submit a request to the diplomatic-consular mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Italy. Following the request, the diplomatic-consular mission validates the information of the driving licence from Bosnia and Herzegovina by doing necessary electronic verification in the IDDEEA registers.
Once the verification is completed, the citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina receives a confirmation, that they have to bring to the relevant Italian ministry, based on which the citizen can collect their Italian driving licence.
This agreement makes it easier for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to stay in Italy and provides them with faster access to driving licences, which is highly beneficial for daily life.
