The Law on Basic Traffic Safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Rulebook on Vehicle Registration, and with the support of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, allow the use of temporary license plates!
Temporary license plates are intended for use exclusively within the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and their use simplifies the purchase and sale of cars and prevents the risk of uninsured accidents for unregistered cars involved in traffic operations.
The system has been made more functional by IDDEAA, enabling the issuing of these plates—which has been around for a while in EU countries—by the cantonal MUPs in the FBiH, the MUP of the Republika Srpska, and the Public Register Department of the Government of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina efficiently.
These red plates can be used for cars that are driven for a test drive, repair, technical inspection, to a location for sale or exhibition, attestation, or storage. They are provided to legal or physical entities, i.e., entrepreneurs. A certificate of usage for the temporary license plates on the vehicle, a document proving automotive liability insurance, and a vehicle registration certificate for the temporary license plates are required for each such vehicle engaged in traffic operations. Namely, at the beginning of this year, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the proposal of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, adopted the Rulebook on the price of vehicle documents and the price of vehicle markings, which defines the amount of the fee for registering and using temporary license plates, and IDDEEA refined the functionality of the system, i.e. database and thus created the technical prerequisites for the use of temporary plates. The request for the issuance of temporary plates for a vehicle must be made to the police station designated as the legal or physical entity’s headquarters, subject to the Rulebook on Amendments to the Rulebook on Vehicle Registration. Once the request is received, the competent authority makes a decision approving the issuance of temporary plates in accordance with the applicant’s registered activity. A temporary license plate can be issued and used for a price of 20 BAM.
