Banja Luka, April 19, 2025 – The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) proudly informs the public that its Director, Mr. Almir Badnjević, has been selected as the sole representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in the prestigious UN-Singapore Cyber Fellowship programme, which will take place from May 13 to 17, 2025, at the ASEAN-Singapore Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence in Singapore.
This programme is organised by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in cooperation with the Government of Singapore and is considered one of the most elite global platforms for training senior national decision-makers in the field of cybersecurity. Participants are selected through a rigorous international selection process, and the invitation represents a strong vote of confidence in the expertise, credibility, and vision of the candidate and the institution they represent.
Previous iterations of this programme have included representatives from governments of countries such as Germany, India, Brazil, Egypt, Austria, Russia, Mexico, Malaysia, and other UN member states. Competition is extremely high, as candidates are nominated from among the top global experts and decision-makers. This year, Bosnia and Herzegovina stands side by side with the most developed countries in the world – thanks to the recognised role of IDDEEA and the successes the Agency has achieved in the fields of digital identity, data management, and cybersecurity.
The goal of the UN-Singapore Cyber Fellowship programme is to provide high-level government officials in the field of cybersecurity with interdisciplinary training in strategy, policy, technology, and operations, and to promote international cooperation through the exchange of experiences and best practices. The programme includes interactive workshops, field visits, cyber incident management exercises, and meetings with key decision-makers from the public and private sectors.
For Bosnia and Herzegovina, this participation marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a representative of a state agency from BiH is participating in a programme considered to be the nucleus for building global cyber resilience.
The participation of IDDEEA Director Almir Badnjević in this programme:
- Opens doors to direct cooperation with leading global institutions in the field of cyber-security;
- Contributes to the faster establishment of a national CERT body and certification authority in BiH;
- Accelerates the harmonization of BiH with international cyber-security standards;
- Strengthens the capacities of IDDEEA and other institutions to effectively manage risks in the digital environment;
- Enhances Bosnia and Herzegovina’s position on the global map of digital resilience and trust.
For IDDEEA as an institution, this is evidence of the highest degree of respect and acknowledgement of IDDEEA’s reform-oriented approach to digitalisation, security, and international interoperability. For Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is an opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge global trends in shaping cyber policy and security infrastructure. And for the individual – it sends a strong message that expertise, hard work, and results can break all barriers, regardless of which country you come from.
IDDEEA BiH will continue to build modern, secure, and user-accessible electronic services, relying on knowledge, international cooperation, and the trust of its citizens.
