Citizens Urged to Plan Ahead: Avoid Last-Minute Rush for ID Documents

The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) urges all citizens to act more responsibly when planning the issuance or renewal of personal documents – ID cards, passports, and driving licences.

Despite multiple public appeals and the availability of information through all official channels, a large number of citizens still choose to submit their applications for ID documents only in the final days before the current documents expiry date – or even after expiration. This behaviour often leads to crowding, extended waiting periods, and increased pressure on officers of the competent authorities.

Officials warn that waiting until the last minute to renew personal documents is not only inconvenient—it’s a growing habit that should not become the norm. The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) is calling for a cultural shift in how citizens approach their administrative responsibilities, emphasising that the impact of delays extends beyond the individual to the wider community.

We remind citizens that:

  • Documents can be renewed up to six months before they expire.
  • Early renewal means faster processing times, shorter queues, and a smoother experience overall.
  • Don’t let expired documents stand in the way of your travel plans, job applications, school enrollment, or access to essential services
  • Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of the e-IDDEEA mobile app, which allows users to track the status of their documents in real time, receive important notifications, and streamline the application process.

A special appeal has been made to parents to stay mindful of the expiration dates on their children’s identification documents. All planned activities—such as travel, school enrollment, or participation in competitions—should be carefully aligned with the validity of those documents to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

IDDEEA, together with the competent ministries of the interiors (MUPs), continuously works on improving the system, increasing efficiency, and making services more accessible to citizens. However, the foundation of success lies in individual accountability.

Be responsible toward yourself and your community. Plan ahead.
