Mr. Almir Badnjević, Director of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA), played a key role in the historic debut of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the GITEX EUROPE event in Berlin – one of the most influential technology events in Europe. This was a significant step forward for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the result of joint efforts by BiH institutions and the IT community, who continuously demonstrate that knowledge, innovation, and quality know no boundaries.
In a well-attended and significant panel discussion on the “Smart City Challenge”, Director Badnjević discussed the opportunities and challenges that smart cities face as infrastructure, public administration, and citizen services undergo digital transformation.
As agreed at last year’s GITEX, Bosnia and Herzegovina had its own pavilion for the first time, where numerous domestic IT companies had the opportunity to showcase their products to media outlets from around the world. Their presence at the fair was not merely symbolic; it was the result of months of intensive work, lobbying, and a shared vision of how the domestic IT sector can and must become more visible on the international stage.
Our goal from the beginning was clear –to secure the place for Bosnia and Herzegovina on the global technology map. Thanks to this appearance at GITEX EUROPE, that goal has been achieved. It is no longer about potential – we now have concrete examples of domestic companies successfully operating on the international market and capable of competing with the biggest players.
This is a big step, but only the beginning. We are confident that the presence of Bosnia and Herzegovina at GITEX EUROPE will open new doors to cooperation, new markets, and investment. We also believe that this success will encourage other sectors in our country to believe in their capabilities and not wait for an invitation – but to create opportunities themselves.
We are proud to have contributed to this project and fulfilled the promise to present Bosnia and Herzegovina as it deserves – as a modern, technologically capable, and forward-looking country.
